What does this mean for you?

Do you want to perfectly match a physical product to the user experience, while full-scale testing is too costly or too slow to repeat every time? CTRL engineering contributes design choices like these through simulation, so you know what works before anything is physically built.

The challenge

Allwaves wanted to offer made-to-measure waves in an Allwaves lagoon, predictable, repeatable and adapted to the surfer’s level. To do that, the wave shape, the fabric that generates the wave, the shape of the pool and the electrical installation all had to be perfectly matched to each other. Testing such a setup every time by building a full pool is unaffordable, so every adjustment had to be predictable before anything was physically built.

Our approach

CTRL engineering took care of a broad part of the development: the control and electrical design of the installation, the mechanical design, the configuration of the motors that drive the wave fabric, building test setups to validate design choices, the software programming of the whole system, and the development of its own product validation system. By first testing virtually through simulation, and then confirming it on the test setups, design choices could be tested and adjusted before any concrete was poured, instead of only discovering afterwards that an adjustment was needed.

“Waves seem chaotic, but we had to make them highly predictable, right down to the repeatability of every run.”

- Jarne, CTRL engineering

The result

A wave you can choose: predictable enough to surf, impressive enough to stay exciting. An Allwaves lagoon that feels like the sea, but can be steered with precision.
